The Elementary Program
The elementary program at Brason runs from September to June. The lower elementary program is grades 1-3 (6-9 yrs of age) and the upper elementary program is grades 4-6 (9-12 yrs of age). Our mixed-age classrooms foster collaboration, leadership, and peer mentorship, allowing older students to reinforce their knowledge by guiding younger classmates while developing confidence and empathy.
In a small class, the Montessori Elementary Program nurtures each child’s natural curiosity and passion for learning in a thoughtfully prepared environment. Guided by highly trained teachers, students explore advanced concepts at their own pace, building upon the foundational skills developed in the Casa Program. Children engage in uninterrupted work cycles, encouraging deep concentration and independent problem-solving. Language Skills
The elementary program cultivates advanced literacy skills through a structured yet individualized approach. Students refine their reading comprehension, creative and expository writing, grammar, and spelling using Montessori materials and research-based methods. Literature studies, word etymology, and storytelling foster a deeper appreciation for language, while students also engage in public speaking and collaborative projects to strengthen communication skills.
Mathematics Skills
Mathematics is taught through concrete-to-abstract progression through the six years of program, ensuring a strong conceptual understanding before moving to symbolic representation. Students explore:
Advanced operations (multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
Geometry (angles, area, volume, theorems).
Problem-solving and logical reasoning
An introduction to algebra and pre-algebra concepts.
Cultural Studies: History, Geography, Science
Our Cosmic Education approach connects students to the broader world, helping them understand their place in the universe. Studies include:
